Romanian national TSO Transelectrica, one of the most important energy actors in Eastern Europe, announces the holding of a brand event on November 8, 2023, in Brussels, hosted by the Commission for Industry, Research and Energy from the European Parliament. “Strengthening energy security and cooperation of transmission and system operators in Eastern Europe” will develop thematic discussions of particular importance for the current context in the energy sector and aims to promote a dynamic exchange of common solutions for bilateral and regional cooperation, to strengthen energy security, the design of the Energy Market and the most effective approaches for the energy transition.
In the context of the war in Ukraine, energy security has become a major concern for Romania and for the other states in the region, given that in March 2022 the electrical energy systems of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova were interconnected synchronously with the European energy transport network. In this sense, ensuring energy security is essential to promote stability and risk reduction in energy supply in the region.
This unique debate will bring together transport and energy system operators from Eastern Europe, through top energy management representatives from Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Albania, Poland, Slovakia. Also, important decision-makers from the European Commission and members of the European Parliament will take part in the debate. A special guest, who will have a significant contribution to the discussions, will be Mrs. Tinne van der Straeten – Minister of Energy from Belgium, the country that will hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first six months of 2024.
The main themes of the event will generate a complex analysis regarding the actuality of the energy security architecture in Eastern Europe and will conclude with a set of practices and effective ways by which countries in this region can develop effective bilateral and regional cooperation to strengthen energy security and energy market development.
This significant debate organized in the heart of Europe, at the European Parliament represents a unique opportunity to bring to the European public agenda the future of energy in Eastern Europe, the ways to strengthen the energy system and advance towards sustainable energy solutions.
Thus, the event organized by Compania Nationala de Transport al Energiei Electrice Transelectrica SA aims to facilitate dialogue between all interested participants with the objective of creating an important alliance node that will contribute to building a safer and more sustainable energy future in Eastern Europe.
The National Electric Power Transmission Company Transelectrica SA manages and operates a network of over 9,000 kilometers of high-voltage overhead power lines (400 kV, 220 kV and 110 kV) and 81 electrical transformer stations throughout the country.
