Drug manufacturer Zentiva has carried out more than 153 energy efficiency projects over the past eight years to which it has allocated more than 2 million euros, said Dan Bandrabulă, the company’s energy and technical facilities manager.
“We started paying attention to energy efficiency in 2015 and have implemented over 153 projects,” he said, at the conference “Energy Efficiency for Energy Transition” organised in București by Energynomics together with the Romanian Energy Efficiency Fund – FREE and the Directorate for Energy Efficiency within the Ministry of Energy.
The year 2022 was full of challenges, especially from an electricity price perspective, but the company took the opportunity to start several energy efficiency plans that it intended to roll out anyway, but not at such a fast pace.
In fact, Zentiva managed to save 4,875 MW of energy last year, “the biggest advance” in a single year so far. By comparison, in 2015, when the company began the process of implementing energy efficiency solutions, energy savings totalled 779 MW.
The drugmaker recorded a net profit of 124 million lei in the first nine months of 2023, almost four times higher than the 33.6 million lei in the same period last year.

The conference in Buvharest was the last of a series of 5 scheduled by the Energynomics communication platform, the Romanian Fund for Energy Efficiency – FREE and the Directorate for Energy Efficiency within the Ministry of Energy. The project was financed by Norwegian Grants 2014-2021.
