Ministry of Energy: Environmental parameters fall within the normal limits established in the area of Vulcan and the Paroşeni Thermal Power Plant

The Valea Jiului Energy Complex and the Paroşeni Thermal Power Plant are subject to continuous monitoring, both from the point of view of technical performance and environmental impact, and recent results indicate that the environmental parameters fall within the established normal limits, with no exceedances of the concentrations of noxes above the allowed values, the Ministry of Energy informs on Wednesday evening, in a press release.

The reaction of the ministry comes after, on Wednesday, the Ministry of Energy was informed about the presence of a disturbing smell of sulfur in the area of Vulcan and the Paroşeni Thermal Power Plant. This incident generated concerns among the population and necessitated the preventive evacuation of an educational institution in the municipality of Vulcan, according to Agerpres.

“In the context of these events, we would like to inform the public that the Valea Jiului Energy Complex Company and the Paroşeni Thermal Power Station are subject to continuous monitoring, both from the point of view of technical performance and environmental impact. This monitoring is carried out by means of specific monitoring and control equipment. The recent monitoring results indicate that all environmental parameters are within the established normal limits, with no excesses of nox concentrations above the permitted values. These data were presented and confirmed by the representatives of the Environmental Guard and other competent authorities,” the statement says.

According to the cited source, in addition, the County Committee for Emergency Situations of Hunedoara County concluded that the Paroşeni Thermal Power plant operated within normal parameters, without exceeding the maximum allowed values for sulfur dioxide (SO2).

“An additional check carried out by GNM confirmed the absence of any technical or technological problems. The Ministry of Energy, together with the Valea Jiului SA Energy Complex, reaffirms its commitment to the rigorous monitoring and control of activities that may affect the environment and the health of the population. We are dedicated to ensure that all energy facilities operate in accordance with the highest standards of safety and environmental protection. We express our regret for the inconvenience caused and assure citizens that we are taking all necessary measures to prevent any similar incidents in the future. Cooperation and transparent dialogue with the community local government and the competent authorities remain a priority for us”, says the Ministry of Energy.
