Every renewable energy generation project with an installed capacity of 5-10 MW should have associated energy storage units, said Sebastian Enache, Business Development Manager at Monsson Group, at the conference “2024: A defining year for the renewable energy sector in Romania”.

Monsson has 1,000 MW of energy storage units in various stages of design. The first batteries are being installed at the Mireasa wind farm, which is being hybridised by adding solar panels and storage units and is due to come on stream in April. The company also plans to reach a nominal storage capacity of 195 MWh over the next two years.

According to Enache, Romania’s future large-scale photovoltaic projects, of which there are about 850, will have to be built correctly, with quality equipment, and the main challenge will be to ensure their maintenance and operation.

“In the next 3-5 years all PV projects will have to be financed and built at the same time and we need to prepare for the period of operation. We will have to change parts, replace panels. We have noticed that many European and other companies are coming to sell equipment and services here. Let’s be proud not of how much we build, but how many healthy megawatts that produce efficiently and consistently we have. Even on new projects there are problems with faulty equipment as early as the warranty phase. Entire parks have shut down and for half a year have not produced any energy,” Enache said.

The conference “2024: A defining year for the renewable energy sector in Romania” was organized by Energynomics with the support of our partners: ADC, Alive Capital, CRC Energy, Elektra Renewable Support, EnergoPower, Ensys, Extro, Horváth, ING Bank, LONGi Solar, Monsson Operation, Nofar Energy, OX2 România, Photomate, PNE Romania, Polytrade Global, REI Grup, Renomia, Sph3ra Management Solutions, Transelectrica, WALDEVAR Energy, Wiren Romania. On this occasion, Energynomics launched its first report under the initiative “Monitor of the Romanian Photovoltaic Projects”.
