The energy transition carried out in the “right” way will have to guarantee consumers’ access to energy, but also the sustainability and reliability of new energy systems, said Daniel Apostol, Director General of the Oil and Gas Employers Federation.
“To get the transition right, three things need to be addressed: energy affordability, sustainability and reliability,” he said, at the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Constanța”.
According to Apostol, companies are being forced to invest in conventional, renewables and new technologies alike in order to meet today’s energy transition compliance requirements and to design the future of the energy system.
But the energy transition is not just about energy, it is about transforming the whole economy, university education and the jobs market, and it cannot happen overnight.
According to Apostol, the energy transition must be realistic, sustainable and secure.
“Europe wants a sea change, but for that we need to get out of the “philosophy of ivy”: we have not to crawl in order to get up. The future is one of financial investment in new technologies and intellectual investment in a regulatory framework that defines Romania’s interests correctly,” Apostol said.
