Nordic Group, one of the largest Romanian companies in the field of distribution of premium food products in the fields of retail, hotels-restaurants-catering (HoReCa) and confectionery invests 250,000 euros in equipping two warehouses with an area of 3,700 square meters, from Giurgiu and Timiș counties, with photovoltaic panels that will produce 505MWh of electricity annually.

By putting the two photovoltaic projects into operation, the company will contribute to protecting the environment, by reducing CO2 emissions by 158.84 tons/year and eliminating 1.5 kg of radioactive waste.

“Responsibility towards the environment means having a series of values, but also acting concretely. At least that’s how we understand it and we always tried to remain faithful to these principles. In addition to the financial aspects, we took into account the benefits that energy green has on the environment,” says Dan Nistor, general manager, Nordic Group.

The solar energy project developed by Nordic Group includes two development phases.

The first phase has already been completed and involved equipping the Nordic Group warehouse in Joita commune, Giurgiu county, with a usable area of 2,800 sqm, with photovoltaic panels that will produce 337 MWh of electricity annually. The proposed installed power of the photovoltaic generator is 302 kWp.

By putting this photovoltaic project into operation, the company will contribute to protecting the environment by reducing CO2 emissions by 106 tons/year and reducing the amount of radioactive waste by 1 kg. In this configuration, 100% of the energy produced by the photovoltaic installation is consumed directly, which represents 20.3% of the warehouse’s annual electricity consumption. The energy production resulting from the installation of the photovoltaic system will lead to a payback of the investment in 2.17 years.

For this project, “split” solar panels with “half-cut” cells were used. By halving these cells and doubling their number, a multitude of benefits are obtained: lower currents through the cell series, with the effect of reducing panel temperature; reducing losses due to shading, dirt accumulated on the panel or cell degradation. All these improvements add a cumulative 20W of power compared to a panel of similar size, but with 60 cells.

In the second phase, the value of the investment amounts to 83,500 euros and involves equipping the Nordic Group warehouse in Izvin commune, Timiș county, with a usable area of 900 square meters, with a photovoltaic solar system. This project is to start by the end of April 2024. The proposed installed capacity of the photovoltaic generator is 159.5 kWp, and the annual electricity production amounts to 168 MWh.

In this configuration, 100% of the energy produced by the photovoltaic installation is consumed directly, which represents 48% of the warehouse’s annual electricity consumption. The energy production resulting from the installation of the photovoltaic system will lead to a payback of the investment in 2.38 years.

By putting the photovoltaic project in Timiș into operation, the company will contribute to protecting the environment by reducing CO2 emissions by 52.84 tons/year and will reduce the amount of radioactive waste by 0.5 kg.

Nordic Group was founded in 1991 and has reached a turnover of over 70 million euro and 400 employees.
