Some 16,000 firms in Romania will have to prepare a new type of quarterly report under the CRD Directive, said Camelia Stoian, Sales & Account Manager at Credit Risk Services, ICAP CRIF, at the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Cluj-Napoca” organised by Energynomics and the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Romania – CCIpR.

Corporate Sustainability Reporting (CSR) requires companies to report on sustainability every quarter. The report must be auditable by an external auditor.

Companies that fall under this new obligation are those that meet two of the following three criteria: have assets of 17.7 million lei (3.94 million euro), have a net turnover of 35 million lei (7.89 million euro) and have an average of 50 employees.

From another point of view, in 2022 Romania will be among the top ten countries in Europe in terms of renewable energy consumption (44% of the total). At the same time, in 2022, the share of 23% of gross final consumption of energy from renewable sources was reached in the EU, but, although it was 1.1% higher than in 2021, this percentage was 20% below the target imposed by Brussels for 2030.

According to estimates, in the next two years – until 2025 – solar energy projects with a capacity of more than 3,000 MW will be installed in Romania. These projects will receive funding from European funds.

In addition, the authorities have pledged to triple this renewable energy capacity to over 10,000 MW by 2030.
