Romania could see a tripling of the number of photovoltaic power plants

Romania could triple the number of photovoltaic power plants installed nationwide if it allowed them to be built on agricultural land and water surfaces, said Christian Leonte, Business Development Director at WALDEVAR Energy, at the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Cluj-Napoca” organised by Energynomics and the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Romania – CCIpR.

“There are two big untapped areas that would triple installed capacity in photovoltaics: agrovoltaics, which it has been too long awaited. There are many projects here that are just waiting for the OK from the Ministry of Agriculture to start. The second area is floating panels, where we are also very involved. Here too, Romania is in a privileged position with the prospect of having the second largest man-made watershed in Europe after the Netherlands,” said Leonte.

Leonte added that “we will have very good news on floating”.

WALDEVAR Energy employs more than 600 people and has several PV power plant projects under construction with a combined capacity of 300 MW, of which the smallest has an installed capacity of 10 MW and the largest is 131 MW.

On the other hand, there are many large projects that are already long overdue. Until now, the main problem in the development of this industry was the financing of projects; now the main problem is precisely the realisation of all these investments.

“In the avalanche of projects that is coming, the second bottleneck will be the implementation of the projects and here the partnership between the beneficiaries and the companies carrying out the projects is very important. It is also very important to achieve energy independence, which is something everyone is striving for. Nobody wants to be dependent on someone else who can turn the light bulb off or on. However, the human resource is the most important,” Leonte said.

The conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Cluj-Napoca” was organised by Energynomics and the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Romania – CCIpR, with the support of our partners: ADC, ABB, BCR, CRC Energy, Datacor, Eaton Electric, Elektra Renewable Support, EnergoBit, Exim Banca Românească, Fortza Solar, MET Energy Romania, Polytrade Global, Nofar, WALDEVAR Energy.
