The integration of Moldelectrica as a full member of ENTSOE (European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity) should be considered a national priority of the Republic of Moldova, said Alexandru Săndulescu, EU High Level Adviser on Energy.
“We should make it a national priority for Moldelectrica to become a full member of ENTSOE as soon as possible. This will not only facilitate market coupling, but will positively influence many other aspects of energy integration,”said Săndulescu at the conference Regional Approach: Chisinau 2024, organised by Energynomics.
Săndulescu warned of the risks of ending up in the situation of Turkey, which extends its observer status at ENTSOE every three years. Also, in order to integrate more renewable energy, it is necessary to develop the balancing capacities of the electricity grid in Moldova, and energy efficiency measures are equally important to reduce consumption and optimise the use of energy resources. This year, the Republic of Moldova will auction the allocation of 105 MW of wind and 60 MW of solar power capacity. Over 100 MW of photovoltaic capacity has also been installed by prosumers in a single year.
“Consumers need to be motivated to install storage batteries to improve grid stability and efficiency,” said Săndulescu.
