The market is showing growing interest in investing in renewable energy storage units, and many investors want to couple photovoltaic power plants with such batteries, said Cosmin Cheran, CEO of Think Blu Solution. However, there are a number of challenges, especially access to land for large-scale solar power plants.

“Out of the 50,000 MW with technical connection approvals (ATR), I don’t think that more than 10% will be realized, including based on previous experiences and in conjunction with Romania’s electricity consumption level. If in the past we had consumption peaks of 12,000 MW, today we barely reach 8,000 MW,” explained Cheran, at the Energy Strategy Summit 2024, organized by Energynomics.

Think Blu Solution has numerous large utility scale projects in the works, including on the green energy storage side, and puts a major emphasis on engineering. The biggest challenges start with the land on which to develop a PV park, and other issues are related to grid connection.

“We wanted to have all the development in-house and we are also handling the financing side,” Cheran added.
