The Ministry of Energy is working together with other ministries on the re-liberalization of the energy market and targeted support measures for families who need them, because currently all consumers are supported, depending on the level of consumption, the Minister of Energy said on Monday department, Sebastian Burduja, following the call of the AFEER suppliers’ association to launch the market re-liberalization process.

This would be a long-awaited first signal by investors, who avoid investing in Romania because they do not know if the capping and compensation measures will continue beyond the final deadline of April 30, 2025, currently provided for.

In the absence of a free market, there is no liquidity in many market segments, which leads to a lack of reference prices, much blamed by investors.

The capping and compensation measures taken during the crisis were also extended this year, according to several voices, for electoral reasons.

“For the cases of families with social, socio-economic conditions that do not allow them to cover their costs, we are already working on targeting these measures together with other ministries, because it does not only belong to the Ministry of Energy, but also to the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Finance, so that we can do exactly what the European Commission has asked us: to target the support measures for the families that need them, because now, as you know, we support all consumers according to the level of consumption. if someone owns an apartment in Primaverii and has a consumption of less than 100 KWh per month, he pays the same rate as a family with five children in Ferentari,” explained the minister, according to Agerpres.

Asked if a change in the legislation regarding vulnerable consumers is being considered, the minister replied that “yes, with a preference for the energy sector”.

“So, we are trying to define, for the energy system, precisely to prepare the period after March next year,” Burduja pointed out.

The Romanian Energy Suppliers Association – AFEER requested on Monday the authorities to urgently start preparations for the re-liberalization of electricity and natural gas prices, in order not to create chaos in the market and give the economy and the population the opportunity to re-adapt.
