Romania is the gateway to the EU and Moldova’s connection to the European energy market, said Moldovan Energy Minister Victor Parlicov.

“Romania is our gateway to Europe, our natural point of contact with the European Union. We estimate that in 2029 or 2030 we will be part of the European common market by coupling with the Romanian market”, said the minister at the conference Regional Approach: Chisinau 2024, organised by Energynomics.

He added that this cooperation is crucial throughout the integration process. The Republic of Moldova has also managed to make remarkable progress, starting from an extremely difficult regional context, but despite the regional difficulties, collaboration with Romania has been constant and without divergences, thus facilitating significant progress in the energy field.

In order to improve interconnection and integration into the European market, the Republic of Moldova has adopted a number of strategic measures, such as strengthening energy links with Romania. Ongoing projects include the construction of the Vulcănești-Chisinau line, which will allow direct energy supply to Chisinau. Work is also underway to finance the Balti-Suceava line and, on the left side of the Prut, the Streșeni-Gutinaș line.

These projects are central to Moldova’s plans to complete the three interconnections by 2028. In parallel, with the support of the United States and private investors, a balancing and system services market is being built, essential for integration into the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSOE).

The conference Regional Approach Chișinău 2024 was organized by Energynomics with the support of our partners: Boglight Gaz Moldova, Elektra Renewable Support, Parapet GmbH, Siemens Energy, Simtel Team, SolaX Power, Waldevar Energy, Transgaz.
