The European Union’s gas storages are 90% full, reaching this level two months before the set date, which guarantees the energy supply of the EU bloc and the stability of the energy markets, announced on Wednesday, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, reports the EFE agency, according to Agerpres.

At the same time, Romania has stored 2.553 billion cubic meters of natural gas, 603 million cubic meters more compared to the same date last year, which corresponds to a percentage of 80.17% of the country’s total capacity.

“The EU’s gas storage is now 90% full, reaching our target before the November 1st deadline,” Von der Leyen announced.

She emphasized that “by promoting renewable energies, saving energy and finding new suppliers, we can store gas for the winter. This guarantees our energy supply and keeps the energy markets stable”.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in February 2022, Europe has tried to break its dependence on Russian gas and has firmly committed itself to the supply of liquefied natural gas, writes EFE.

Since then, the market has been very sensitive to sudden fluctuations in the supply of this energy source.
