The E.ON Group is an important partner for around 941 suppliers of products, services and works, of which over 95% are Romanian companies, according to the Sustainability Report for the year 2023. On the entire supply chain, E.ON remains a partner important to approximately 2,300 direct and indirect suppliers.

The value of the purchases of the companies in the group exceeded 1.22 billion lei (about 254 million euros), an increase of about 4% compared to 2022. This amount does not include the value of the purchases of electricity and natural gas intended for about 3.4 million customers from Romania. Last year, 97 suppliers, representing 58% of all new suppliers, were selected based on social and environmental criteria as well.

At the same time, E.ON is one of the largest taxpayers in Romania to the state and local budgets, with the total value of contributions exceeding 1.87 billion lei (around 379 million euros) last year. In the 18 years of its presence in Romania, the sums transferred by E.ON in the form of fees and taxes are around 15.55 billion lei (3.4 billion euros).

With a total number of 6,961 employees (by reporting full-time work), marking an increase of 1.5% compared to the previous year, E.ON continues to be one of the largest employers in Romania, having a significant impact both regionally as well as nationally.

Record investments, 31% higher compared to 2022

During 2023, investments totaled 857 million lei (around 173 million euros), increasing by 31% compared to 2022, these being directed towards the development of new networks and the modernization of the existing infrastructure for electricity and natural gas, as well as in automation and digitization projects, with the aim of improving the quality of the services offered.

Modernization of networks and digitization of activities recorded the most important increases in investments compared to the previous year, with percentages of 89% and 48%, respectively, reflecting a strong focus on innovation and efficiency in the management of energy resources. All this contributes to a greener future by reducing environmental impact, but also to better customer service.

For example, Delgaz Grid networks take energy from approximately 13,900 connected prosumers with installed power up to 184 kW, and in total more than 1 GW of renewable energy is taken into the company’s network.

For the third consecutive year, Delgaz Grid ranked first in the quality of electricity distribution service among all distributors in Romania, with the shortest duration of unplanned interruptions in electricity supply. The average duration of unplanned network outages for users connected to the Delgaz Grid network decreased in 2023 to 67.93 minutes, well below the country average of 103.92 minutes.

Thanks to the investments made year after year, as well as through the operational measures to make processes more efficient, the value of the Own Technological Consumption (CPT) of the electricity network was reduced to 9.4%, thus exceeding the reduction objectives assumed from the regulated perspective. At the same time, we managed to reduce the value of technological consumption (CT) of the natural gas network, reaching 1.7% in 2023.

Energy efficient solutions for a sustainable future

E.ON is not only a supplier of electricity and natural gas for 3.4 million customers, but also a supplier of energy solutions.

All solutions developed by E.ON – photovoltaic generation, heat pumps, charging stations, condensing thermal plants are designed to increase comfort, energy independence, reduce carbon emissions and optimize energy consumption.

For example, the company installed 400 photovoltaic (PV) panel generation systems at residential customers last year. Also, the company is among the market leaders in Romania regarding PV generation projects for companies and institutions. Last year alone, 161 power plants were completed and handed over on a turnkey basis, so far 359 have been completed.

At the same time, the company is a leader in the transition to the new era of electric mobility, the objective being to support people, companies, cities and communities with accessible, reliable and environmentally friendly mobility solutions, including solutions integrated with photovoltaic systems. In 2023, 172 charging points for electric cars were installed and we thus reached a total of 428 charging points in Romania.
