Romania will see a huge demand for residential energy storage systems, in the hundreds of thousands, thanks to multiple funding programmes. However, many of these will be realised by speculators, said Octavian Crișan, CEO of Ensys & Atnom.
“There is very high demand, but so far it’s all at project level. We expect there to be an explosion of projects, but a lot of them will be on speculation, just like in the photovoltaic area, where, from what I hear, there are 50 GW of projects on paper. Over the next year, more than 100,000 batteries will be installed in Romania for residential applications, each with a power of 3-5 kW. We see a very high demand also from existing residential prosumers. We are talking about a demand of hundreds of thousands of units,” he said at the conference “Battery Energy Storage Systems – BESS Romania”, organised by Energynomics.
However, there is a reluctance from customers because of the high price and long delivery times. But Chinese products are increasingly sought after because of their attractive price of less than 150,000 euros per MW.
“We have demand for storage units in the residential sector of several thousand units and expect a very productive 2025. We’re going distributed storage units,” he added.
