Balancing the energy system in the future will have to be done directly at the source, not on the balancing market, a market which, as today, will remain a speculators’ playground, said Răzvan Rădulescu, CEO of Software Media WEBUS 4 ENERGY.

“Batteries are, at the moment, the only solutions capable of backing up a system that produces energy and cannot buy quickly from the market. Once companies buy energy from the intraday market they have two hours to deliver it. We believe that, in future, balancing must be done at source, not on the balancing market, which, whatever the conditions, will remain speculative. Those who will have the capacity will impose prices that will bring them advantages and profits,” explained Rădulescu at the conference “Battery Energy Storage Systems – BESS Romania”, organised by Energynomics.

He said that this model of balancing electricity generation and consumption will be sustainable for the next two to three years, after which it will diminish as grids are digitised and imbalances are managed directly at source. A second model is the hybrid model, which involves integrating a storage system into a photovoltaic park.

According to Răzvan Rădulescu, companies opting for this solution will have to consider a 20-year lifespan for battery systems, as a shorter period could lead to losses.

The conference “Battery Energy Storage Systems – BESS Romania” was organised by Energynomics with the support of our partners: Alive Capital, Elektra Renewable Support, Enevo Group, Ensys, Enexus, OX2, EVOLVE Energy Management Solutions, EVOLVE Energy Management Solutions, SIM Connect, SolaX Power, Think Blu Solution, WEBUS 4 ENERGY, Wiren.
