Monsson recently installed a 6 MW battery which is part of a larger energy storage project planned to exceed 200 MWh, said Mihaela Popescu, Head of ESS Asset Management Division at Monsson.

“This is a complex hybrid project. We developed a new storage concept and innovated on the safety of this system. I’m talking about things like keeping the batteries cool. We did a test this summer and we managed to keep the temperature of the batteries at 20 degrees Celsius, even though it was 40 degrees outside,” she said at the conference “Battery Energy Storage Systems – BESS Romania”, organised by Energynomics.

The storage unit is located near a future 35 MW photovoltaic park and an existing 50 MW wind farm.

“For the future it is very important that those who will operate the technical side of the storage units understand the elements that impact the commercial operation of the battery,” she said.

Through RenewAcad, Monsson’s experts are making training courses available to those interested, including the module entitled “The Business Side of Storage Solutions”, at a cost of 650 euros + VAT.

Topics covered

  • Romanian market and legislation for storage;
  • Types of storage markets and storage services in Romania and EU;
  • Business plan, costs and IRR;
  • Case study technical and commercial operation Mireasa Hybrid 216 MWh
