The energy group 5 Rovinari, within the Oltenia Energy Complex, is ready to be put into operation and connected to the National Energy System, the cost of the project being over 100 million euros, the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, wrote on Facebook on Sunday.

“Almost ten years since it entered the re-engineering process, the energy group number 5 Rovinari, within the Oltenia Energy Complex, is ready to be put into operation and connected to the National Energy System. 330MW coal-based production in the strip for Romania’s energy, which must be safe, accessible and green – in that order. This project cost over 100 million euros and required a human effort that is difficult to quantify. We are probably talking about one of the most complex works carried out in the infrastructure of the energy system in Romania. All the necessary works have been carried out to comply with the environmental requirements (according to the strictest European standards): electrostatic dust removal installation, flue gas desulfurization installation, exhaust installations in slam dens system, flue gas deoxidation The rehabilitation and modernization works were carried out by third-party companies and own personnel, under the coordination of specialists from S.E. Rovinari. Through the works carried out, operating costs for this group are expected to be comparable to those of the gas groups,” said Burduja, quoted by Agerpres.

According to the official, in the last few days the necessary tests and checks were carried out to reconnect the energy group to the SEN, and the moment of its effective entry into operation is very close.

“I congratulate all those who, in recent years, put their shoulder to the completion of this very important project – the CEO management, the specialists and the companies involved. A special mention for Dan Plaveti, the president of the directorate, a professional who in many moments in the last years kept the CEO on the right track, despite the challenges.

Could things have been done faster? Probable. Certainly, however, in the future, we must accelerate the process of expansion and modernization of the energy infrastructure. Time has no patience, we know the problems, not only for Romania, but for most of Europe. We are a central player in Europe and it is only up to us to strengthen this position,” said the Minister of Energy.

He added: “In the last year, we quickly moved from theoretical discussions about energy security and independence to concrete actions, which means large-scale support for investments in this sector. I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat it: it’s been decades in which too little was done for the energy sector, and today we all pay the costs. The good news is that the effects of the investments of recent years are beginning to be seen. Energy for a new Romania!”
