The best 15 specialists in the natural gas distribution sector from the Delgaz Grid company, as well as the three most meritorious students who are preparing in this field, were awarded in Mediaș, during the final of the Technical Olympiad, now in its 11th edition.

In this phase of the professional competition, 48 specialists participated in five categories, who competed for almost 10 hours in the theoretical and practical tests held at the training ground at the Mediaș Vocational Training Center. In parallel, 16 students attending dual education at Delgaz Grid’s partner professional schools in Zalău, Baia Mare, Târgu Mureș, Mediaș, Hunedoara, Alba-Iulia, Cluj-Napoca and Suceava proved their knowledge and practical skills, in the junior section of the Technical Olympiad.

“This year’s edition of the Technical Olympiad was a special one, both through the participation record, almost 1,200 specialists at the local stage, and through the increasingly high professional level of my colleagues who are on the field every day and do their work very good for the network to be functional and the customers to be satisfied. Congratulations to everyone,” said Cristian Secoșan, general manager of Delgaz Grid.

“It’s impressive to see both the mature and the young prepare and improve year after year to be better and better at this professional competition. We appreciate everyone, big or small, winners or not, and I’m sure that everyone is grateful for the experience gained, but also for the intense emotions they experienced these days,” said Cristian Ifrim, deputy GM of Delgaz Grid.

The five specialty categories of the competition were: Maintenance – network overhaul, adjustment station overhaul, construction, assembly and anti-corrosion protection, defect repair and interventions; Special activities – detection, localization; Measure – meter replacements and maintenance, installations and corrective settings; Welding – PE (Polyethylene) and OL (Steel) welding activities and Pressure Work.

For the second consecutive year, the Junior Technical Olympiad was organized. The 16 participating students do practice at the Operative Work Formations and many of them come from disadvantaged families. Learning a job under the guidance of the company’s specialists is for them a development opportunity and a chance for employment in the future.

The Technical Olympiad is an internal project of the Delgaz Grid company. It was initiated by young engineers, who thought and translated this competition into reality as a way of training for employees in the natural gas distribution area who work in the field.

Over the years, this has proven to be not only a mechanism to train employees so that their merits are recognized, but also a way of continuous learning and an exchange of experience between specialists from 20 counties and who are organized in 12 Natural Gas Network Operations Centers. Last but not least, for the students participating in the Junior Technical Olympiad, the competition means a step forward in the learning process, especially for those who will choose to work in the field of natural gas distribution.
