In 2023, Romania is in 87th place worldwide in terms of carbon emissions, with 3.7 tons of carbon per capita, and in Europe it is among the countries with a low level of carbon emissions, explained, on Thursday, Radu Hanga, the president of the Board of Directors of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, according to Agerpres.

“I was looking at my phone, I wasn’t being rude, to update myself on carbon emissions, to see where Romania stands. In 2023, globally we are in 87th place, with 3.7 tons of carbon per capita. The champions at the global level, i.e. those that pollute the least, are in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with 0.04 tons per capita. The champion in Europe is Albania, with 1.5 tons of carbon per capita lower than Romania in Europe are three countries: Albania, Lithuania and Sweden”, said Radu Hanga.

He mentioned that in terms of numbers we live in one of the most sustainable countries in Europe in terms of carbon emissions. Consequently, we live in a country with the most sustainable companies.

According to Radu Hanga, Europe is the champion in sustainability. Globally, there are more than $3 trillion in assets under management in funds with a sustainability component. Of the 3 trillion, over 2.5 trillion dollars are in Europe and 300 billion dollars are in the United States.

“I don’t think a company has built its business without looking at its customers, without looking at all the stakeholders around it. I think we are now starting to discuss this. All the companies that are on the market, all the companies that managed to develop were sustainable and sustainability meant on the one hand profit for shareholders, on the other hand it also meant a face oriented towards the environment around the company, towards consumers, towards society the life of a company and have always been part of a company’s life,” said Radu Hanga.
