Demand for energy efficiency solutions for buildings has increased significantly in Romania, but not necessarily out of concern for the environment, but out of fear of costs. At the same time, this market will continue to grow rapidly, at least until 2030, said Andreea Ghincea, Product Sales Specialist HVAC, ABB, at the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Timisoara”, organised by Energynomics.
“The demand for such solutions has grown considerably and continues to grow. By 2030, at least in Romania, there will be a lot of projects, because there is a lot of old equipment in Romania. This efficiency trend, which should have come earlier, has not only happened in Romania, but also in Europe and globally, and has been transmitted even to the smallest end consumers. There is a change of mindset among end-users; they are more receptive to education. In a way, this efficiency has come out of necessity, not necessarily out of concern for the environment, especially as we all know about the taxes to be introduced,” Ghincea said.

According to ABB data, residential and commercial buildings consume about 40% of global energy, and 85% of emissions from buildings occur during the operational phase of a building (the rest being the construction and demolition phases). Also, a considerable part of buildings’ energy consumption is for heating and cooling, which means that improving energy efficiency is essential. HVAC systems account on average for 50% of the energy consumed by buildings. But because many systems and buildings are outdated and not strictly controlled, data collected from the market is not always accurate.
