Net profit down 35% for Nuclearelectrica in the first nine months

Nuclearelectrica reported, in the first nine months of this year, a net profit of 1.28 billion lei, down 35% compared to the same period in 2023, when the value was 1.98 billion lei, the financial results show company’s unaudited results, published on Thursday on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB).

According to the centralized data, the operating profit (EBITDA) decreased by 28.1%, from one year to the next, influenced by the 38.9% decrease in the prices of electricity sold, for a similar amount of electricity sold, according to Agerpres.

Also, operating revenues decreased by 40%, while the amount of electricity sold on the competitive market decreased by 20.7% compared to the previous period from 2023, representing 45.48% of the total amount sold (including imbalances) , and the average selling price on this market was 55% lower.

At the same time, the company recorded an expense with the contribution to the energy transition fund (CFTE), for the period January 1 – September 30, 2024, of 110.577 million lei, compared to 2.059 billion lei, in the period January 1 – September 30, 2023, as following the reduction of sales prices for certain transactions below the regulated level for which the contribution is calculated and due.

At the same time, operating expenses, less depreciation, amortization and CFTE, increased by 36.1%, at nine months, compared to the same period of the previous year.

The gross electricity production of the two operational units of CNE Cernavodă was, in the reference interval, 7.97 million MWh, of which 2.79 million MWh in the third quarter of the current year.

Thus, the electricity produced and delivered in the National Energy System (SEN) was 7.31 million MWh, in the first nine months of 2024, compared to 7.62 million MWh, in the similar period of 2023.

The financial report of Nuclearelectrica reveals that, during the nine months of this year, the amount of electricity sold through the Centralized Electricity Purchase Mechanism, based on contracts, on the spot market (PZU and PI), as well as on the PE of was 7.47 million MWh, 1.6% below the sales schedule, respectively 3% below the amount of electricity sold in the first nine months of 2023.
