Construction has started on the Green Breeze wind farm, an important project for the development of renewable energy in Romania. The project was sold to Nala Renewables (“Nala”) in August 2024 and, under the agreement, OX2 will construct and operate the project and Nala Renewables will oversee these activities.

Located mainly in the municipality of Cuca in the county of Galati, Green Breeze is a major investment in the energy future of the region and the country. With a capacity of 99.2 MW, it will consist of 16 Vestas V162 V162-6.2 MW™ turbines, with delivery starting in summer 2025. The project has secured grid access through a connection contract signed with Transelectrica in March 2023, with commissioning planned for 2026.

“We are delighted to mark this milestone for one of Nala’s largest projects to date,” said Remy Verot, Chief Operations Officer at Nala Renewables. “We will oversee the construction and operation of this large 99.2 MW onshore wind farm through our active construction and asset management teams. Romania is one of Nala’s core markets with a strong outlook for renewables, being an investment grade country with strong government support for renewables. This achievement is a testament to the hard work of our team and demonstrates our ability to secure contracted assets and take advantage of the increased demand for renewable power purchase agreements from multinational organisations. We look to continue in the same direction in the coming months in Romania and the wider region,” added Remy Verot.

“After the finalisation just a few months ago of the first OX2 partnership in Romania, we are now starting the construction of this wind farm for which we will manage the entire life cycle from development to operation. Green Breeze emphasises the successful collaboration between central and local authorities and renewable energy investors for a sustainable future of Romania”, said Lăcrămioara Diaconu-Pințea, Country Manager OX2 Romania.

The Green Breeze project was acquired in August 2024 by Nala Renewables, a joint venture between IFM Investors and Trafigura. The transaction includes a 12-year PPA agreement with a multinational corporation.

Finanțarea proiectului este asigurată de Erste Group și filiala sa, Banca Comercială Română. Aceste acorduri sunt confidențiale.

Once commissioned, OX2 will be responsible for the technical and commercial management of the project, overseeing operations and optimising production with Nala’s Asset Management. The wind farm’s annual energy production is estimated to be 312 GWh, covering the annual electricity consumption of 51,000 households and contributing to a reduction of around 150,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year[1].

The Green Breeze wind power plant will be equipped with Vestas turbines, the civil works, as well as the medium voltage grid, including the indoor substation, will be realised by CJR Renewables. The 110 KV underground power line and the substation for connection to the Transmission Grid will be realised by the Enevo Group-Siemens Energy consortium. The project has been developed together with Kompact Grid, which will continue to provide technical assistance to OX2 for the construction phase together with Bilfinger Tebodin (OX2 owner’s engineer).

OX2 is one of the European leaders in the renewable energy sector with a portfolio of around 50 GW in development, construction and operation. The company is active in onshore and offshore wind, photovoltaics, as well as hydrogen and energy storage technologies.
