Energy storage units will be what will help reduce energy imports, said Elena Popescu, CEO of Elektra Renewables.

“Energy storage batteries are most useful when they are attached to a power generation unit,” she said, at the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Bucharest” organised by Energynomics together with the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Romania – CCIpR.

She added that Elektra Renewables, with the projects it has underway now and those that will start in 2025, namely attaching batteries to wind power plants, is securing its business for the next 10-15 years. The projects will be implemented from 2025.

Elektra Renewable Support will reach a milestone this year, exceeding 700 MW of capacity in operation. The company started in 2011 with its first 8 MW wind power plant, and this year it will exceed 700 MW that it manages for its customers. Also, starting next year, Elektra Renewable Support will integrate energy storage systems into all its wind energy projects with capacities between 6 and 10 MW.
