We continue to present the 2024 Energynomics Awards nominees of the year, with the “Green energy achievement of the year” section. The award recognises the outstanding contributions of companies, projects and individuals who have demonstrated excellence and innovation in promoting green energy solutions. The 12 nominations reflect efforts to transform Romania’s energy sector into a model of sustainability and progress. Only one of them will be honoured at the Gala on 4 December, but all of them deserve our appreciation for their significant contribution… We thank all the companies and personalities who have been involved in this endeavour to shape the image of the Romanian energy industry in 2024 through its achievements!
DRI – Wind farm Ruginoasa
DRI developed Romania’s first wind farm in the last decade, with a capacity of 60 MW, built in just 10 months. The project contributes to the diversification of energy sources and supports Romania’s transition to a green economy with a significant impact on local communities.
Enexus Renewables – Hybrid park Cojani
Enexus Renewables has realised one of the first hybrid photovoltaic parks in Romania, integrating 20.24 MW of solar energy and a storage capacity of 3 MWh. The project, completed in just six months, was funded by the PNRR with approximately €3 million. Inaugurated on 24 October 2024, the investment marks a milestone for the integration of advanced technologies in the Romanian energy system and supports the transition towards sustainability.
European Energy – 500 MW in new capacity with ATR
European Energy has obtained connection approvals for 500 MW of solar and wind projects in Romania, part of a portfolio of over 1.5 GW. These developments support Romania’s transition to clean energy sources and help generate jobs and local incomes. The projects are a significant step towards realising the goal of producing affordable and sustainable green energy for Romanian consumers.
Eurowind Energy – Wind farm Pecineaga
Eurowind Energy has installed its first 6.6 MW wind turbine in Pecineaga, Constanța County. It is part of a 48 MW wind farm that will become fully operational in 2025. The advanced technology allows efficient operation even in low winds, and the project will power 48,000 households and make a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions.
Hexing Technologies – The smart metering factory in Timisoara
Hexing Technologies inaugurated the largest smart metering factory in Romania, with an investment of 15 million lei. The factory produces smart meters, batteries and inverters, contributing to the modernisation of electricity grids and the regional energy transition. With an estimated annual capacity of €25 million, the project supports local economic development and creates over 200 jobs.
LSG Building Solutions – Glyptodon project
LSG Building Solutions has finalised one of the largest mixed photovoltaic park in Romania, Glyptodon, with a capacity of 56 MWp and 68.8 MWh storage. The project in Timis county includes a 110 kV transformer station and was realised in five months. This investment is a major step in Romania’s energy transition, integrating advanced technologies and efficient energy storage solutions.
Monsson – Mireasa electricity storage system
Monsson has developed an innovative energy storage solution with a total planned capacity of 216 MWh. The system utilises patented technologies and components manufactured in Romania, offering a scalable and sustainable solution for renewable integration. The project contributes to reducing carbon emissions and increases the reliability of the national energy system.
OMV Petrom – Developing its renewable energy portfolio
OMV Petrom has expanded its renewable energy portfolio to 2.3 GW in 2024 through acquisitions and strategic partnerships. These include three 710 MW PV projects and a partnership with Renovatio for 1 GW of future projects. These initiatives support the company’s goals of reaching 2.5 GW of renewable capacity by 2030.
OX2 – Wind farm Green Breeze
OX2 has sold the 99MW Green Breeze 99MW project to Nala Renewables, setting up one of the biggest deals in 2024, with a value of 214 million euros. The project includes 16 turbines and produces 312 GWh annually, reducing emissions by 150,000 tonnes of CO₂. The transaction reinforces OX2’s expertise in implementing sustainable solutions.
Simtel Team – Prodromu, Athos Storage System
Simtel Team has installed an innovative storage system at the Prodromu Hermitage, Athos, with a capacity of 512 kWh and 100 kWp photovoltaic support. The project reduces reliance on diesel generators and supports the energy transition in this remote region, and is an example of sustainability and advanced technology applied to historic sites.
Volt EVSE – Rooftop photovoltaic project at Kronospan, Sebeș
Volt EVSE has completed a 12 MWp photovoltaic project on the roof of the Kronospan factory in Sebeș, reducing CO₂ emissions by 7,577 tonnes annually. This project, the largest of its kind in Romania, has been audited according to European standards and is a model for the integration of renewables in the industrial sector.
Waldevar Energy – Exceptional growth in 2024
Waldevar Energy saw impressive growth in 2024, with a 281 per cent increase in turnover and 232 per cent increase in headcount. The company has expanded its portfolio with new divisions and PV projects, strengthening its position as a leader in the renewables market.
