Greenvolt Group has signed its first contract with Flora Food Group, a global leader in the branded food industry, for the development of two decentralized energy generation projects. Through the company specialized in distributed generation, Greenvolt Next, the Group will install nearly 5,000 photovoltaic solar panels at Flora Food Group’s facilities in Portugal and Germany, which will together generate over 3 GW/h of clean energy annually.

The agreement with Flora Food Group involves the installation of 1,485 solar panels at the units in Portugal, located in Santa Iria da Azóia, in the municipality of Loures. In Germany, in Upper Saxony, more precisely in the city of Wittenberg, another 3,483 panels will be installed at the Flora Food Group production facility.

The panels installed at the Portuguese facility, through a project developed by Greenvolt Next Portugal, will have a capacity of 861.3 kWp, allowing the plant to generate 1.1 GW/h of clean energy annually. In Germany, the subsidiary Greenvolt Next – Energy Partners (MaxSolar Group) – will install solar panels with a capacity of 1,999 kWp, generating 1.99 GW/h per year. Both projects are expected to reduce energy bills by around 20%.

“These are significant Distributed Generation projects that Greenvolt will implement through our various subsidiaries, demonstrating the strength of the pan-European platform that the Greenvolt Group is developing,” said João Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt.

Greenvolt was recently acquired by a subsidiary of investment funds managed by global investment firm KKR, through its global infrastructure strategy. “Being majority-owned by KKR provides the necessary support to accelerate Greenvolt’s growth plan, while also providing opportunities to collaborate with other companies in KKR’s global portfolio, such as Flora Food Group, mainly in the field of distributed energy generation,” added João Manso Neto.

“The partnership with Greenvolt is perfectly aligned with our sustainability objectives. By installing solar panels at our facilities in Portugal and Germany, we are making concrete progress in reducing our energy footprint and improving operational efficiency,” said Laurent Lavenut, Chief Operations and Product Officer, Flora Food Group.

Distributed energy generation is one of the growth pillars of Greenvolt Group, which continues to expand its pan-European self-consumption platform, now operating in 13 geographies. It is a global reference in the development of large (Utility-Scale) projects, both wind and solar, as well as battery solutions, in 16 countries. It is also one of the leading players in generating clean energy from residual biomass in Portugal and the United Kingdom, where it owns Tilbury Green Power and Kent Central.
