On Sunday, around 09:00, an oversized transport carrying a turbine to the Mintia power plant (Hunedoara County), which is currently undergoing renovation, entered Romania through the Nădlac I border crossing point, according to a post on the Facebook page of the National Road Infrastructure Administration Company (CNAIR).

It is a record-breaking oversized transport for Romania. The convoy has a total length of 128 meters, a width of 6 meters, a height of 5.4 meters and a weight of 788 tons.

This transport will cover approximately 264 km of the national road network and has a series of spectacular and innovative elements at European level, which concern the location of two cranes necessary for the assembly and disassembly of the “flyover” structures necessary to cross the structures on the route, CNAIR stated.

The transport is part of a contract that includes over 250 components that began to be delivered to Mintia in June 2024 and have fixed deadlines for installation on the foundations.

The Romanian Government has declared the MASS Mintia Power Plant project as a project of national importance in the field of electricity. This decision underlines the authorities’ commitment to ensuring the country’s energy security, modernizing the National Energy System (SEN) and supporting economic development through strategic investments.

The new plant, located in Hunedoara County, will operate on the basis of modern and efficient technologies, using gas and steam turbines, with a total installed capacity of 1,770 MW. This investment, estimated at 1.4 billion euros, will create hundreds of jobs and contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, aligning us with European decarbonization objectives. The plant will produce approximately 12,159 GWh of electricity annually, with a projected lifespan of 30 years.
