The annual Intersolar AWARD is one of the most prestigious awards in the industry. Beyond the awards, the Intersolar Europe event is the meeting point for all companies and experts in the field. This summer, three ideas became clear, according to Amy Fang, from Infolink Consulting. 1. Inventory piles up in Europe, and signs of price drops are clear; 2. Local manufacturing still has a ways to go; 3. The market is adopting n-type and other novel products.
Among the latter, AIKO stood out from a pool of ten finalists and won the Intersolar AWARD 2023, which aims to select and celebrate the most innovative and disruptive products and technologies in the photovoltaic industry for the year. An independent panel of judges composed of international experts selects industry-leading innovators based on indicators such as innovation, technological creativity, environmental impact, business value, etc.
The Intersolar panelists state that the ABC Modules created by AIKO combines N-type solar cells with passivating contacts and back-contact architectures to create some of the world’s most powerful solar panels.
The PV modules reach a capacity of 620 watts at 24% efficiency, significantly higher than most available panels. The glass back sheet modules have impressive temperature coefficients and a 30-year power warranty. In addition to technical excellence, AIKO’s new line features clean aesthetics and all-black variants, suiting a wide range of construction projects.
The panel also praised AIKO for metalizing their ABC modules without using silver, which significantly reduces silver consumption and is therefore more environment-friendly.
“The availability of silver, like many other precious raw materials, is limited on Earth”, said Federico Brunelli PhD, Solutions Europe Director AIKO. “The dynamic development of the photovoltaic industry translates into increased consumption of this raw material. In 2022, the photovoltaic industry accounted for approximately 10% of global silver consumption. The desire to eliminate the use of this raw material in the production process of AIKO modules was dictated by the desire to both increase production sustainability and secure the supply chain.”
The ABC cell technology is independently developed by AIKO with completely independent intellectual property rights. The most outstanding feature of ABC cell is that it greatly improves the conversion efficiency by placing emitter/base both on the back side of the cell without grid lines on the front side based on its back contact design. In the whole PV market of the M10 specification, AIKO is the first manufacturer whose modules can be mass- produced with a deliverable efficiency exceeding 24%, which can better meet the demand for high conversion efficiency in the distributed PV market.
AIKO ABC modules passed the IEC test of long-term reliability, durability and fire protection for PV modules from TÜV Rheinland and received both certification according to the performance standard IEC 61215 for PV modules and the safety standard IEC 61730 for PV modules, which means that the quality of the product in terms of low degradation, high power 4 generation and safety has been recognized by international authorities.
Shanghai Aiko Solar Energy Co., Ltd. (AIKO) is a global-leading new energy technology company challenging the limits of photoelectric conversion. With a worldwide distribution network, AIKO now sells products to Europe and Asian countries such as South Korea, Japan and India.
The AIKO modules are also available in Romania starting this year.
