The first half of 2020 (H1) marked a record for the 100% electric cars, both in the European Union and in Romania. Austria, Poland and the Czech Republic are the largest markets in the region for electric cars, and Romania registered an average of 100 registrations per month in 2020. The number of full-electric models on the market is constantly growing, subsidies have been motivating and the total number of charging stations is rising in Europe, according to Hotnews.
ACEA data show that 155,000 new electric cars were registered in the EU in the first half, up 40% from the first half of last year.
France exceeded 45,000 units, due to subsidies from the state, and Germany exceeded 44,000. France deserves special mention for the 114% increase, and of all EU countries, the highest percentage increase was in the Czech Republic, where sales rose more than threefold, from 360 to 1,254 units. Poland sales figure is not bad either, with 1,130 cars, while Hungary has reached 1,002 electric cars.
There were over 4,800 new sales in Austria, 328 in Slovakia and only 135 in Greece.
Romania posted a figure of 591 new full-electric cars, marking an increase of 30% compared to H1 2019. In the EU, in third place was taken by the Netherlands, with over 14,000 cars, but there were also several markets where the number of newly registered electric cars decreased: Spain, Portugal and Ireland.
