Excessive and repeated increases of the electricity prices traded on centralized markets, as well as the numerous notices of termination of energy supply contracts made on centralized platforms affect both the electricity distribution operators and the last resort suppliers, warns The Federation of Associations of Energy Utility Companies (ACUE). Therefore, ACUE members believe that the analysis of the authorities regarding the way the electricity markets are functioning should be carried out quickly and should include, in addition to transactions on these platforms, “an analysis of the available production capacity and of the activity of the suppliers who terminated contracts during this period”.

“Not honoring the contracts combined with a massive increase of the energy prices traded on Day Ahead Market (DAM) and on Balancing Market (BM) is likely to affect the electricity supply to households and to non-household beneficiaries of the universal service”, explains ACUE.

ACUE members believe that urgent action is needed in order to identify the measures to prevent the repetition of similar situations so that “the consumers can continue to have reasonable and predictable prices for electricity”.

Established in May 2012, ACUE Federation has 30 members, among which many strong groups from the energy sector such as E.ON Romania, ENGIE Romania, Distrigaz Sud Rețele, ENEL Romania, CEZ Romania, Societatea Energetică Electrica SA, C.N.T.E.E. TRANSELECTRICA, Electrica Furnizare, WIEE, WIROM GAS, GAZ EST, with a total of about 27,000 employees and an annual turnover of over EUR 5.5 billion.
