Romgaz, like all the other companies in the oil and gas industry, needs new, advanced information technology tools, said the CIO of Romgaz Adrian Boiarciuc, at the conference DigitALL 2021, organized by Energynomics. “The need for information technology is all the more pressing in the case of Romania, which exploits mature fields with a significant natural production decline. From 10 per cent year-on-year, it can be reduced to less than 5 per cent year-on-year by using cloud or IoT technologies, which in other countries have brought immediate benefits and a direct impact on production,” he explained.
“I mean reducing drilling time by real-time monitoring, significantly reducing the processing time of reservoir models, increasing the degree of success in the exploration activity. The disadvantages of not using these new technologies are easy to understand – losing time and higher costs.”
Adrian Boiarciuc considers the legislative framework is essential to ensure companies in the sector the possibility to adopt cloud-type technical solutions. “Most of the system providers in the industry offer only cloud solutions. The systems currently in use will soon be out of support and maintenance,” Boiarciuc added. “Big data and data analytics make it possible to use a very large amount of data to optimize decision-making and produce real-time reports”.
He also said that a collaborative working environment and optimal communication, with increased dynamics, remote work included, can be effective with higher technologies.
“Currently, digitalization is almost inaccessible to oil and gas industry companies in Romania, before declassification of data… For this, we need to update the legislative framework in order to allow us access to technologies such as cloud, big data, cloud computing”, he said.
