AEM – the smart meters manufacturer in Timisoara expects a strong increase in turnover, from 72,8 million euros in 2016 to nearly 92 million euros this year; this will be mainly due to the increase in smart meter orders from outside Romania, says Olimpia Moica, General manager of the company and chairman of the board.

“We would like the demand for meters in Romania to increase also, to replace more and more of the old meters”, says Moica. Unfortunately, some companies have not organised tenders for this, lately. “We deliver a lot of smart meters in Italy and France, electronic power meters in Hungary, we have started to deliver in Germany for a few years now. I hope that we will deliver more in Romania also”, says Moica.

Over the past two years, AEM has provided nearly 400.000 smart electronic meters for Enel’s E-Distributie subsidiary, and any delivery involves a new investment.

“We have invested 4,5 million euros in specific machines for Enel’s smart meters, manufacturing preparation, mold making and certification in laboratories in Rome”, says Moica.

AEM is preparing for new auctions, especially on the external markets. In 2016, approximately 56.7% of the turnover was made for export. AEM owns in Romania a market share of 60% for both gas and electricity meters.

The company has a production capacity of 2,2 million meters per year and invested 58,7 million euros in the Timisoara plant since January 1999. The company has about 1.400 employees and the average gross wage per employee is about 2.100 lei.
