German companies in Romania say that their economic situation is good or satisfactory, although most of them (70%) see the international context worsening in the next 12 months, according to the survey carried out in October 2022 by the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Romania).

The questionnaire considers both the assessment of the economic situation and the situation of the companies and also provides an overview of the main economic risk factors from the perspective of the companies, in general. Thus, only 3.3% of the surveyed companies expect an improvement in the local context in the next 12 months (2021: 20%), while almost 27% believe it will remain the same. The majority (70%) believe that cyclical factors will worsen (2021: 30%).

Regarding the evolution of the activity, most companies (46.7%) expect it to remain unchanged, while 37% believe it will deteriorate in the next year (2021: 10%). There is also a percentage of optimists, but lower than in 2021: around 17% (2021: 42%) expect to develop their activity locally.

The volume of investments will remain unchanged for 33% of the companies surveyed, also 33% (2021: 18%) say they will invest less. About 17% of companies do not intend to make any investment in 2023, and 16.7% want to increase their investments locally (2021: 36%). It is gratifying that the number of employees remains constant, as companies have no intention of laying off staff. Thus, more than 63% of companies intend to maintain the number of employees (2021: 42%), while more than 30% even expect to increase it (2021: 40.8%).
