For AHK Romania, 2022 is a special year, because, for 20 years now, AHK Romania has been successfully operating as a German Chamber of Commerce Abroad, being a central engine for the development of bilateral economic relations.
“A lot has happened in the last 20 years – the country has grown from a simple production site to a location for innovation, attractive to German companies,” said AHK President Andreas Lier in his digital message to the AHK community, summing up, thus, the evolution of Romania in the last 20 years.
More and more German companies are investing in the establishment of new development centers – often in good and close collaboration with Romanian universities – thus contributing to the further development of the investment site.
It is particularly important for Romania to continue its efforts to maintain its competitiveness.
“The problems related to the shortage of qualified personnel have lost their importance only for a very short period of time, due to the pandemic. The availability of skilled labor and the development of infrastructure are now again at the top of the priorities for the German business environment in Romania,” says Sebastian Metz, General Manager and member of the Board of AHK Romania. To these are added the challenges related to digitalization and transforming the economic system into a sustainable and circular system.
The current discussion about energy prices is just the beginning of a difficult transformation process that we all face.
“The challenges are many and will require great long-term availability for transformation, both on the part of the economy and of the citizens. What matters now are clear messages, the creation of a climate of trust between politics and business and the correct use of available European funds,” says Andreas Lier.
“Given all this, we put the anniversary year 2022 under the sign of sustainability, an extremely current topic. Sustainability means investing in education, research and development, in the quality of life in the cities and regions in which we live. Sustainability also requires sustainable economic systems that are accepted and supported by society,” say AHK officials.
“On this thematic complex we want to focus on AHK Sustainabilityear 2022 and, through a series of events, to initiate green projects, to provoke a dialogue between political, economic and civil society actors and to produce new, innovative ideas for a future sustainable. German companies are ready to make available the technologies they have, the Know-how and Best Practices, to bring bilateral economic relations to a new level.”
