AJ Brand is to build up to 480 MWh of battery energy storage capacity for one of its customers near a large-scale photovoltaic park. When completed, it will be one of the largest projects of its kind in the country, said Adrian Stan, founder and chairman of the board of AJ Brand, at the conference “Stepping stones for the BESS technologies development”, organised by Energynomics.

“We finally convinced a customer of ours to build 460 or 480 MWh of capacity. In the first phase, we will install 160 MW and in the next phases the others will be installed. We are happy to build it 50 kilometres from Bucharest, next to 640 MW of photovoltaic capacity,” he said.

The investment is currently in the procurement phase. According to Stan, while two or three years ago, when there was national talk about storing renewable energy in batteries, there were only a few small-scale projects, but today the country can be proud to be among the pioneers in the field, even compared to countries more advanced than us in photovoltaic and wind technology.

“Romania is becoming one of Europe’s leaders,” Stan added. He noted that there are other players on the market that will invest in this sector, and that most of the company’s clients are investment funds, three of which are very large, listed funds.

The conference “Stepping stones for the BESS technologies development” was organised by Energynomics with the support of our partners: AJ Brand, Alive Capital, BCR, Big Store, Elektra Renewable Support, EnergoBit, Enery, Enevo Group, Enexus.
