Parliament recently approved the compost law, so all Romania’s territorial administrative units are required to organize separate collection of the biodegradable fraction from each family in Romania, Environment, Water and Forestry Minister Costel Alexe said on Tuesday.
He stressed that Romania has “long delays in terms of separate collection and recycling, including of all packaging, whether we are talking about PET, glass or cardboard.”
“Parliament recently approved this compost law. I don’t know if it will be from January 1 or if they will have implementing rules, but it is certain that all territorial administrative units of Romania are obliged to organize the separate collection of the biodegradable fraction from each family in Romania. If we were to look at where we should be today and where we are, it is certain that we are very late in terms of separate collection and recycling, including for all packaging, whether we are talking about PET, glass or cardboard,” said Alexe, at Digi 24, according to Agerpres.
The Minister of Environment expressed his hope that the public authorities will carry out awareness campaigns about “how important this separate collection and recycling of waste is at national level”.
“I hope that the public authorities in our country will conduct awareness campaigns about how important is at national level this separate collection and recycling of waste and, obviously, we will have to start because the European Commission is no longer patient with us,” Costel Alexe added.
He specified that the Ministry of Environment also intends to carry out an awareness and education campaign of the Romanian public regarding the separate collection and recycling.
