Alstom signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Serbian government on Friday to build Phase 1 of the first line of the future Belgrade metro network. In this project, Alstom will be responsible for a wide range of works, including subway trains, digital train control systems, platform protection panels, infrastructure (installation of the runway and power solutions) and system integration. Construction of the new metro network is expected to begin at the end of this year, after the signing of the contract with the Serbian authorities.
The new transport system will provide the basis for truly sustainable mobility in Serbia’s densely populated capital, helping to reduce road congestion.
The first two lines will cover a total of about 42 kilometers – the first having 22 km, the second almost 20 km. The first line will run along the Sava River, crossing the center of Belgrade, connecting the Makisko Polje area in the southern part of the city to the northeastern Mirijevo district. The second line will connect with the Zemun railway station, crossing the new area of Belgrade and intersecting with the first line in Mirijevo.
Alstom is the world’s number one in integrated urban solutions, offering a complete portfolio of capabilities and technologies for an efficient urban transport system. The company also has the knowledge and resources to implement turnkey solutions: from rolling stock and infrastructure to digital traffic control, information systems and maintenance services. Alstom references include subway systems for Dubai, Riyadh, Hanoi, Montreal, Taipei, Panama and Singapore. Alstom has sold more than 17,000 metro trains in the Metropolis range, which run in 55 cities around the world and carry 30 million passengers every day.
