AmCham Romania presented the results of a new edition of the survey on the quality of the investment climate in Romania. The answers to the questions that specifically focused on the appreciation of Romania’s competitive advantages, the main market conditions and the measures impacting on the economy in the last year strengthen the alarm signal on the sustainability of the economic growth in the absence of public investments, especially transport infrastructure projects.

Although most of the responding companies are confident of maintaining the revenue, investment and employee growth trend in 2019, they also express concern about those issues that affect the investment climate.

The most appreciated market conditions that have contributed to the performance reported by companies are the quality of digital infrastructure (52%), human capital (50%), and the level of corporate taxation. At the opposite end, the quality of the transport infrastructure, which is overwhelmingly considered poor by 94% of responders, followed by a lack of public investment policies and programs, with 66% and macroeconomic stability by 59%.

In this context, the main three measures that respondents see necessary for a significant improvement of Romania’s investment framework and economic competitiveness are the review of the quality of public spending and its channeling towards investments (64%), the increase in European funds absorption (55%) and investments in infrastructure (51%).
