Enel X Romania solutions have brought significant savings to customers who have installed solar roof systems, such as Mega Image or Rewe. Thus, Mega Image achieved, by installing 450 kW roof panels, a 314 t per year reduction of its carbon footprint and savings of 65,000 euros per year. Rewe Group (Penny), by installing some PV systems on the warehouse logistics system in Turda, reduced its carbon footprint by 771 t per year, achieving energy savings of 150,000 euros per year, said Andrei Horhoianu, Head of Engineering & Operations, Enel X Romania, during the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Sibiu”, organized by Energynomics.

On the other hand, the new global targets are extremely ambitious. By 2050, 78% of energy will be produced from renewable sources, an increase absolutely necessary to meet the advance of energy demand, of 60% by 2040. Digital technology has also an important part in supporting this growth. Thus, the growth of the digital technology market in the non-fossil energy segment is expected to reach 55% by 2025.

”In addition to all these, there are over 1,250 companies that have very solid CSR strategies and they have signed the documents for transition to production or operation processes with zero carbon emissions. All this gives us the confidence to develop our line of business and to go to our customers with the necessary know-how, to help them in the decarbonization processes, through the efficient use of energy and electrification and digitalization solutions – as one without the other cannot work, in this conglomeration of distributed energy sources”, said Andrei Horhoianu.

The Energy Management System platform used by Enel X can offer a wide range of energy efficiency solutions. “Not only the technology is part of this concept, but also energy consulting and management services,” he added.

On the distributed energy side, the market has become very mature and is on a growing trend in terms of distributed generation. “Romania has a very good solar potential, and photovoltaic systems are an excellent solution for distributed production; we talk a lot about solar systems with or without grid injection, based on advanced, bifacial technologies, which we promote in our projects. We have the cogeneration and trigeneration part for the situations where they are feasible, the classic infrastructure part for the network connections and the reduction of distribution tariffs through various changes of the network connection point from low to medium voltage, various solutions for industrial equipment in the back-up and supply areas, for ensuring the quality parameters of energy and efficient lighting, which combines LED technologies with the control part”, Andrei Horhoianu also said.

“In terms of flexibility, we are developing the demand-response program that we want to launch somewhere in 2022. Consumers will gain an active role in the electricity market and they will be able to capitalize, through aggregators, the potential for flexibility, thus avoiding starting other power plants in the energy system. Of course, with the emergence of financing systems for the energy area, the energy storage systems behind the meter, which would allow their operation for system services, will become feasible and will be another solution in our portfolio, starting with 2022”.

The conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Sibiu” was organized by Energynomics, with the support of our partners  ABB România, Enel X România, Kawasaki Gas Turbine Europe GmbH, Photomate, Sixt, Wiren.
