A team of ANPC commissioners will deal strictly with the energy sector, after problems were discovered that seriously harmed consumers’ interests, in the context of market liberalization, says Sorin Susanu, chief commissioner for the Brasov region within the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC).
“The commissioners within CRPCRC (Braşov) have started checks for several months in order to avoid deceptive practices by economic agents that will sell energy and, unfortunately, problems have been discovered that seriously harm the interests of consumers, which is why both sanctions and repairing actions have been applied. We have started to receive notifications regarding various irregularities in this field and it seems that there may still be incorrect commercial practices, which is why we decided to set up a team at the level of CRPCRC (Braşov) of commissioners who will deal only with this field and will coordinate the activity of the commissioners from the subordinated counties designated to carry out similar activities,” said Susanu, according to Agerpres.
Specially appointed Commissioners shall examine how electricity suppliers have informed consumers of their offers, verify any unfair commercial practices, potential abusive clauses in their contracts with individuals, how they provide consumers with access to information of interest, and the possibility of which consumers can get in direct contact with company representatives.
“It is extremely important that every consumer can be informed correctly and completely, but according to some notifications, in some cases this is impossible; for example, one consumer has told us that he has tried to contact his energy suppier by phone repeatedly, but, even if he waited over an hour on the phone, no one answered,” Susanu said.
