ANRE has amended and supplemented the Regulation on the supply of last resort of natural gas, one of the major objectives of the regulatory authority being to ensure continuity in the supply of natural gas to final customers, the authority announced.

In this sense, a new Regulation was issued approved by the Order of the President of the National Energy Regulatory Authority no. 173/2020, in order to increase the number of designated suppliers of last resort (FUI), which also have a significant market share, as the supply of natural gas as a last resort implies an immediate operational and financial capability to enable them to take over, in exceptional cases, the customer portfolios of suppliers that for various reasons can no longer continue their activity.

Thus, in accordance with the provisions of art. 10 par. (1) of the Regulation, with subsequent amendments and completions, ANRE started on December 8, 2021 a selection process for the designation of last resort suppliers of natural gas, in order to meet the conditions, respectively “a number of at least 5 FUI, whose cumulative market share, calculated by equal weighting of the number of final customers and the amount of energy sold to them in the last 12 months for which ANRE has data in following the activity of monitoring the natural gas market, to be at least 70%.”

Following the process organized between December 8 and 14, 2021, in today’s meeting, December 14, 2021, of the Regulatory Committee were approved the decisions to designate the companies ENGIE Romania SA, E.ON Energie Romania SA and OMV Petrom SA as suppliers of last resort of natural gas, companies that have the obligation to take over the customers who have not ensured the supply of natural gas, according to the provisions of the Regulation.

Thus, the list of last resort suppliers of natural gas designated by ANRE is as follows:

  1. ELECTRICA FURNIZARE S.A.
  2. PREMIER ENERGY S.R.L.
  3. TINMAR ENERGY S.A.
  4. ENGIE Romania S.A.
  5. E.ON Energie România S.A.
  6. OMV Petrom S.A.
  7. CEZ Vânzare S.A- until January 2, 2022.
