The Government of Romania has approved the Multi-Annual Investment Financing Program for the modernization, rehabilitation, refurbishment and extension or establishment of central heating systems for several cities. The beneficiaries of the District Heating Program are the administrative-territorial units, ANRE announces.

“So far, a number of 35 approvals have been issued (of which 31 approvals in 2020), for projects submitted by Tulcea City Hall, Vatra Dornei City Hall, Brașov City Hall, Sibiu City Hall, Giurgiu City Hall, Arad City Hall, Oradea City Hall, Brad City Hall and Motru City Hall, with a total investment value of 194,200,176 lei, an estimated total energy savings of 6,046.08 toe/year and an estimated total reduction of gas emissions with a greenhouse effect of 15,269.83 tons of CO2 equivalent/ year. There are 7 other projects in various stages of analysis,” according to ANRE.

”This Program comes to support financially the urgent need to make investments in centralized heat supply systems in order to implement efficient and viable heat supply systems of the city, to capitalize on the potential of high efficiency cogeneration, the use of renewable energy sources, as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Within this Program, ANRE verifies the technical documentation of the projects prepared by the administrative-territorial units and issues, under the conditions established by regulation approved by order of the President of the National Energy Regulatory Authority, a technical opinion on energy efficiency that includes energy saving and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions estimated to be achieved through the implementation of projects. For projects started under GD no. 462/2006, ANRE issues opinions on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions estimated to be obtained through the implementation of projects.”
