The country’s gas imports in August 2019 amounted to 2.2 million MWh, 3.5 times more than the same month of last year, according to data published by the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE).
In August 2018, imports were only 625,339 MWh, according to Agerpres.
ANRE also publishes import prices, which averaged 81.79 lei per MWh. In comparison, the price of domestically produced gas was 35% higher in August, of 110 lei per MWh, as shown by the Romanian Commodities Exchange data.
Until this year, the price of the Romanian gas was much lower than the price of the imported one, but the situation reversed as a result of the GEO 114/2018, approved in December 2018.
