The European Commission has granted an extension to Romania until the end of the year to comply with the legislation in the gas sector, after the Romanian authorities proposed a new market liberalization calendar, which will be finalized on April 1, 2021, claims Claudiu Dumbrăveanu, director within the Authority National Energy Regulation (ANRE).
As part of a gas infringement procedure, Romania had until September 26 to comply with European law, otherwise it would be sent to the European Court of Justice.
“We have asked for a three-month postponement of the deadline of the motivated opinion, which was September 26. Following the documents sent by the Romanian side, which included the request for deferral, the justification of the request and the proposed legislative acts, the European Commission accepted a three-month postponement of the compliance deadline, respectively December 26,” Dumbrăveanu said, quoted by Agerpres.
Until then, the Romanian authorities will have to issue the legislative framework and the steps foreseen in the proposed normative acts, so that the European Commission is sure that Romania will transpose the assumed commitments.
