The elections that have just ended were important because they showed that the voices that wanted to ban the exploitation and consumption of gas and campaigned for the shutdown of nuclear power plants have lost power, said Antal Lorant, chairman of the Romanian Senate’s Committee for Energy, Energy Infrastructure and Mineral Resources.

“I conclude that people in Europe have realized that greening was not well thought through and we need to sit down again to rethink Europe’s energy strategy”, Antal Lorant stressed at the Energy Strategy Summit 2024, organized by Energynomics.

Antal added that a “redesign” of documents such as the Green Deal or Fit for 55 is needed.

“The energy transition, if not done wisely, will produce a lot of green energy, we will shut down gas, we will no longer have nuclear and we will shut down nuclear capacity. We will be a green continent, but without industry and without jobs,” he warned.
