More than a quarter (27.51%) of respondents to a survey conducted at the request of Ariston Romania plan to purchase a heat pump in the next 2-3 years, and over half (52%) of them claim that they would make the switch to heating with a heat pump now, if they benefited from state subsidies.

Almost three quarters of those interviewed (over 70%) believe that the state should grant subsidies to facilitate the transition to heat pumps, and 85% say that these would decisively influence or at least play an important role in making a decision on the purchase of this type of equipment.

For almost two thirds of respondents (65.8%), reducing utility costs is the main argument in favor of choosing a heat pump. Other arguments in favor of purchasing a heat pump are the triple utility offered (heating, cooling and domestic hot water production – 55.65%), the low level of pollution (35.36%), the possibility of use in areas where there is no access to district heating or gas networks (15.94%) and advanced connectivity through applications (13.04%).

The survey, which aims to analyze how Romanians relate to heat pumps, was conducted between August and September 2024 on a sample of 1,960 respondents.

For the first time, this edition of the survey revealed that there is a segment of consumers (12%) that the EU plans to amend the legislation on thermal comfort could lead to make the transition to heat pumps in the near future.

The survey results highlight an acute need for information among consumers regarding heat pumps, as 43.67% of respondents mentioned the lack of information as a determining factor in their decision not to purchase a heat pump for the time being. The most important sources of information for consumers remain articles and blogs (36.78%) but also consultants or heating experts (35.52%).

“The transition to heat pumps involves moving to a new paradigm of thermal comfort. We are talking about a complex process, which requires time, but also resource consumption. These are not only material resources, where the discussion is broader and involves state support for consumers; they also refer to the sources from which people get their information. We note that one of the impediments to adopting heat pumps as a heating solution is insufficient information, which is why we constantly run information and education campaigns. Moreover, we have created intermediate solutions to make the transition to heat pumps easier. Thus, there are hybrid solutions in our portfolio, i.e. heat pumps that can be installed on an existing heating system with a gas boiler. We recommend this solution as a first step in adapting consumers, who will thus be able to save energy in a very environmentally friendly way”, said Cătălin Drăguleanu, Head of East Europe Southern Countries – Ariston Group.

Ariston sells in Romania air-to-water heat pumps from the Nimbus NET R32 range – the newest solution for heating, cooling and domestic hot water, with high efficiency and a reduced environmental footprint. The new pumps incorporate the Ariston NET PRO remote diagnosis platform, which allows remote verification and management of the installed systems.
