The 18,000 customers in the gas supply segment of Restart Energy will become, starting Friday, November 19, customers in the last resort supply (FUI) of Engie, told Energynomics Armand Domuță, CEO of Restart Energy, confirming, thus, the information of e-nergia.ro. Instead, Domuță claims that he did not specify a date for this move, although initially, a company release sent last week specified that it will take place in 2022.
“Restart Energy, one of the largest independent electricity suppliers on the local market, with a portfolio of approximately 50,000 customers, announces the strategic decision to give up the supply of natural gas to focus on green energy, starting in 2022 …. The natural gas market in Romania, but also in Europe, is going through an extremely difficult period, characterized by high price volatility, lack of predictability in the supply area and major changes in a very short time, which creates a real state of discomfort, both among natural gas suppliers and end customers. To these special conditions are added the legislative amendments recently adopted in Romania, which, according to our projections, will have an important negative impact on the natural gas supply activity. As a result, after a careful analysis, we decided to give up the activity of natural gas supply starting with 2022 and focus on electricity and renewable energy solutions,” it is shown in the release sent to Energynomics on Friday, November 12th.
“I don’t remember specifying to you or to someone else any timing, because it did not depend on us, it depended on ANRE,” told Energynomics on Thursday, November 18, Armand Domuță. He was unable to provide us further information, but showed his willingness to provide further statements at a later date.
Thus, Restart customers will be temporarily taken over by Engie, which, however, recently announced that it wants to give up the status of supplier of last resort in the gas segment, starting with December 15.
