Israel plans to completely phase out the use of coal for electricity generation by 2026, and the country’s energy mix is to consist only of natural gas and renewables.

In 2019, Israel started using renewable sources, which accounted for 5% of the country’s energy mix, according to Avigail Shtamler-Paz, head of Israel’s economic mission in Romania, during the “More renewables for Romania” conference, organized by Energynomics.

In the same year, coal’s share of Israel’s energy mix was 30%, but has fallen in each subsequent year, reaching 21% last year. Coal is expected to be used in Israel until 2025, by which time it will account for only 3% of the energy mix.

As coal is removed from the country’s energy mix, it will be replaced by natural gas and renewables. In 2025, gas will cover 76% of consumption, up from 70% in 2024, while renewables will increase from 18% to 20%.

From 2026, Israel will use only natural gas and renewables, and in 2030 their share of consumption will be 70% (gas) and 30% (renewables).

Israel’s Foreign Trade Administration has 55 offices worldwide, of which 43 are fully operational.

While in 1949 two-thirds of Israel’s exports were citrus fruits, by 2022 the country has completely changed its product and service offering. Thus, 24% of the country’s exports are computer programming products, 11% electronic equipment and 10% chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
