BayWa r.e. considers Romania a key market in Europe and has nearly 1 GW of renewable energy projects underway locally. These include in particular photovoltaic plants and several wind projects, said Martin Reckmann, the company’s Managing Director.
“Next year we plan to start the first wind-solar hybrid project in Romania. We have set up a branch in Romania in 2023 and already have 10 employees. In the next few years, we want to reach a team of 20-30 employees,” Reckmann said at the Energy Strategy Summit 2024, organized by Energynomics.
The first major project – a large-scale solar power plant – will be commissioned in the middle of next year. BayWa r.e. has installed 75% of the floating solar panel projects in Europe and is also interested in the area of offshore wind power generation in Romania.
With operations in 34 countries and revenues of nearly $6.3 billion, BayWa r.e. is active in renewable energy development, service provision, distribution and energy solutions. Globally, BayWa r.e. has commissioned more than 6 GW of renewable energy and manages more than 10.5 GW of assets. The shareholders of the company are BayWa AG, a 25.9 billion dollar revenue company, and Energy Infrastructure Partners, active in the energy infrastructure investment sector and managing funds of over 7 billion dollars.
