In the first quarter of 2024, Romania had the fourth lowest price for natural gas in the European Union and the fifth for electricity, according to the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, who quotes Eurostat data.
“Good news comes from Eurostat: Romania continues to have among the lowest prices for electricity and natural gas in the European Union! In the first quarter of 2024, our country had the fourth lowest price for natural gas and the fifth in electricity. We are confident that this trend will continue in the second quarter, thanks to the adjustment and extension of the price ceiling scheme until March 31, 2025,” the minister wrote on his Facebook page, according to Agerpres.
He emphasized that, although the hot season brought higher prices on the spot markets, they did not have a negative impact on the bills received by households.
“From the data received for the month of June from the main electricity suppliers, the invoiced prices were up to 14% lower than the established ceiling, thus protecting consumers and the state budget”, stated Burduja.
He reiterated that strategic investments are a priority and recalled that last week another 25 financing contracts were signed, worth over 3.5 billion lei, for the modernization of electrical distribution networks.
“In total, we have attracted almost 7.5 billion lei in non-refundable European financing for the networks, more than in the last three decades! And the good news continues: in the autumn we are launching a competitive call for investments in electricity storage capacities, in the amount of 150 million euros. The main concern of me and the team at the Ministry of Energy remains protecting consumers and ensuring access to energy at fair prices, now and in the future,” added the Minister of Energy.
